"I would wish my portraits to be of the people, not like them. Not having a look of the sitter, being them." -Lucian Freud
"To me, portraiture is much more than capturing a likeness. Taking artistic liberties in my interpretations of a sitter, I create portraits that transcend ordinary verisimilitude. In my process and in my bold use of color and line, I strive to be inventive and experimental: I use multiple layers that incorporate pattern, color, and texture; these layers build depth and seem to "sculpt" the features of my sitters. Arguably, it is this layered and experimental approach to painting and color that gives my portraits a distinctive, even delightfully idiosyncratic quality." |
